Rhinoplasty results take longer to fully resolve than most other facial procedures. Swelling in the nasal tip, the slowest area to heal because of its thicker, more sebaceous skin and more limited blood supply compared with the nasal bridge, can take a year or more to fully settle, so earlier photos in a patient's recovery can show a slightly fuller, less defined tip than the eventual long-term result. Swelling along the bridge and sidewalls typically resolves faster, often within a few months, which is why tip refinement is usually the last visible change to finish and why rhinoplasty results are sometimes judged too early by patients expecting the fast timeline of other facial procedures. Photographs taken at different points in this longer recovery window aren't always directly comparable, even within the same patient, since the tip can continue to refine well after the rest of the nose has reached its final shape.
Changes to the nasal bones and cartilage are addressed individually based on a patient's existing structure, skin thickness, and breathing function, not planned toward a single standardized shape, which is why rhinoplasty results vary more from patient to patient than procedures with more uniform techniques and healing patterns. Functional considerations, such as a deviated septum or narrowed nasal valves affecting breathing, are often addressed at the same time as the cosmetic changes, since the internal structure and external shape of the nose are closely connected and changing one without accounting for the other can affect how well a patient breathes afterward.
