Breast Augmentation Case 13

Gender
Female

Description

This patient is 4 months post-op breast augmentation.

At four months, most of the initial firmness and tightness from surgery has eased and the implants are close to their resting position, though some patients continue to see small changes in softness and shape for another month or two as the surrounding tissue fully relaxes. This stage is a reasonable point to judge symmetry and overall shape, since the earlier swelling that can temporarily mask minor asymmetries, or make a breast look more uniform than it actually is, has mostly resolved by now. Any residual firmness remaining at four months tends to be concentrated at the upper pole of the breast, which is typically the last area to soften, since it sits furthest from where the implant naturally wants to settle under gravity. For most patients, the difference between the four-month mark and the eventual long-term result is subtle rather than dramatic, more a matter of continued softening than any real change in shape or position.

Implant profile and placement, above or below the muscle, are planned around a patient's chest dimensions, existing tissue thickness, and breast base width, which is why two patients choosing the same implant size can end up with a noticeably different final look depending on their starting anatomy. A narrower chest wall with less natural tissue coverage will generally show more of the implant's shape and edges than a wider chest with thicker tissue, even with an identical implant. Placement also affects how quickly the implant settles: submuscular placement generally takes somewhat longer to reach its final position than placement above the muscle, because muscle tension has more influence on the early shape and takes time to relax. Patients are sometimes surprised that the same implant can look different on two people with a similar starting bra size, but breast base width and tissue thickness vary independently of overall body size, which is part of why a proper fitting involves actual measurements rather than a size conversation alone. More on how these choices are typically made is on the breast augmentation page.

Individual results may vary.
